Kebanyakan dari orang Indonesia susah untuk bisa mahir berbahasa inggris. Mengapa demikian? yah, karena sejak lahir kita tidak menggunakan bahasa itu untuk percakapan kita sehari-hari. Apakah ada yang salah? Oh tentu tidak, kemampuan seseorang tidak dapat dinilai dari kemampuan berbahasa inggris saja, namun pasti orang-orang akan heran dan tertegun jika ada sebagian kita yang mahir berbahasa inggris. “Pinter tuh orang bahasa ingrisnya” dan lain-lain ungkapan yang terlontar jika kita menjumpai seseorang yang mahir berbahasa inggris. Lain halnya jika kita terlahir dan hidup di lingkungan yang menggunakan bahasa inggris sebagai bahasa percakapan sehari-hari.
Tapi permasalahan utama sekarang adalah bagaimana kita menyikapi bahasa inggris itu untuk digunakan sebagai bahasa modern di tingkat internasional. Walaupun bangga dengan bahasa kita sendiri, namun kita juga tidak akan bisa lari dari bahasa inggris yang merupakan bahasa pergaulan internasional. Kita juga harus bisa menggunakan bahasa inggris sebagai salah satu kemampuan yang merupakan “added value” bagi kita jika ingin bersaing dengan bangsa-bangsa besar di belahan dunia ini. Jangan sampai kita hanya berkutat di seputar bangsa sendiri, namun kita jauh tertinggal dengan bangsa – bangsa lain hanya karena permasalahan bahasa saja.
Saya termasuk orang yang belum mahir betul berbahasa inggris, bahkan boleh dibilang pas-pasan jika dibanding dengan teman-teman saya yang lain. Tapi disini saya ingin mengajak kepada seluruh anak negeri ini termasuk saya untuk bisa belajar dan mahir berbahasa inggris untuk kehidupan kita kelak yang lebih baik. Banyak cara yang bisa kita lakukan untuk mengasah kemampuan berbahasa inggris kita, salah satunya adalah dengan mengikuti les atau kursus bahasa inggris.
Kemajuan yang sudah semakin canggih seperti sekarang ini tidak menutup kemungkinan bagi kita untuk bisa belajar berbahasa inggris yang baik. Banyak media dan sarana termasuk hasil karya orang-orang yang sudah diabadikan dalam bentuk software yang dapat kita manfaatkan untuk melatih dan mengasah bahasa inggris kita. Salah satu yang sekarang menjadi trend sebagai media translate adalah sebuah media translate yang dibuat oleh Google yang dapat kita gunakan secara gratis di www.translate.google.com.
Selain bisa menerjemahkan kedalam beberapa bahasa yang lain, google translate ini juga bisa kita gunakan untuk mendengarkan ejaan atau suara tentang pengucapan setiap kalimat atau kata menggunakan bahasa inggris. Jadi kita tidak perlu mencari native speaker untuk didatangkan hanya sekedar mencari ejaan ataupun pengucapan yang benar. Semoga tulisan ini dapat bermanfaat khususnya bagi yang belum pernah menggunakan www.translate.google.com
